Currently, I am exploring the expansive repertoire of compositions for trumpet solo, trumpet with piano, and trumpet with orchestra and band or wind ensemble.

In additional trumpet performance projects, I have commissioned and performed electroacoustic compositions employing fixed media as well as utilizing both Ableton Live Production Software with the Push Digital Audio Workstation in combination with amplified trumpet and analog guitar effects foot pedals. My performance language is steeped in contemporary classical improvisation combined with an electronic music format has garnered invitations to performances at the New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival, the International Trumpet Guild, the College Music Society.

I am actively performing as a trumpet soloist and chamber musician having concertized throughout the United States and Europe. As the Artistic Director and First Trumpet of Brass Ring, I guided the ensemble’s eclectic and diverse style that brought our musical performances to prominent venues such as New York City’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine, the historic Carousel at the Santa Monica Pier, as well as performances at Toad’s Place – Connecticut’s premier rock ‘n’ roll nightclub and concert venue.

Additionally, I initiated the commissioning and premieres of several Pulitzer Prize winning composers, including Jacob Druckman, Ned Rorem, David del Tredici, and Christopher Rouse. As a member of Brass Ring, we recorded Viktor Ewald’s Quintet No. 1 and the premiere recording of Luciano Berio’s Call for Brass Quintet with Crystal Recordings.

It was an honor to compete and earn prizes at several international and national competitions including in the Geneva International Music Competition, the International Trumpet Guild Student Solo Competition, and the Queens Philharmonic Concerto Competition, and the Philip Jones International Brass Chamber Music Competition in Barcs, Hungary.

Robert Nagel, Richard Burkart, and Armando Ghitalla nurtured my musical training as a trumpet performer and pedagogue while earning degrees from The Hartt School, The Ohio State University, and The University of Michigan.

I am a Yamaha Performing Artist and perform exclusively on Wedge Mouthpieces.

I am available for solo and chamber music performances. For more information, availability, and fees, contact me at dan.@lonetoadmusic.com or 860.543.3217.
